America is home to hundreds of thousands of African refugees who have been displaced by war and unrest in places like Rwanda, Somalia, Burundi and Sudan. Surviving decades of massacres, slavery and exploitation practices in their home countries, many fled to refugee camps in neighboring countries such as Tanzania or Kenya. While living in these temporary camps, the United Nations intervened on their behalf and asked the United States to receive them. Thousands of these refugees have relocated to Middle Tennessee.

The African Leadership Refugee Ministry serves these refugees and immigrants now living in our community. Our mission is to them give biblical hope and healing. Since 2000, the Refugee Ministry has welcomed and provided assistance to hundreds of families and individuals as they arrive and resettle. We have served refugees from countries all across the African continent, including Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea, Togo, Congo Brazzaville, and Equatorial Guinea. This year, we celebrate 10 years of God’s grace and provision to our ministry and those we serve.

We seek to improve the lives of these refugees, as each is a life full of struggles – filled with sadness, loneliness and frustration. After fleeing such horrific conditions as war, genocide, and famine, a new set of difficulties begins as they attempt to start over in a strange and unfamiliar land.

Our ministry relies on people like you - caring, thoughtful members of the community who wish to serve the Kingdom. If it is in your heart to serve Africans, they have come to your doorstep. Will you help us welcome them in?
